In “The Statehood Room”, among other things, are the demarcation maps. The one from 1839 shows Montenegro as the only free territory in the Balkan region, divided at the time between the great empires –Turkish and Austro-Hungarian.

In the corner, there is Njegoš’s fiscal cash register, symbolizing the first attempt to regulate state finances and taxation system in Montenegro.

Senate, as central government body, was established during the rule of Njegoš, as well as local government bodies.

The Statehood Room and paintings done by Pero Poček (scenes from the Mountain Wreath)

Several rooms provide a systematic presentation of Njegoš’s life and his creative journey from his birthplace of Njeguši to the Lovćen throne that secured him a place among the great people of the world.

Here are the authentic exhibits: the chest that belonged to Njegoš’s mother, his gusle, the original “will” indicating Rade Tomov as ruler of Montenegro. Besides the earliest edition of The Mountain Wreath, there are also copies of Luča mikrokozma(The Ray of the Microcosm) and other Njegoš’s works, as well as all of their major translations to other languages.

Njegoš’s busts (done by  Ivan Meštrović and Rista Stijović) and Njegoš’s works

The exhibition is rendered complete by the works of famous artists who were inspired by Njegoš and his works – Poček’s illustrations for The Mountain Wreath, a bust of Njegoš done by Ivan Meštrović etc.
